1311
In 1311, Lincoln Cathedral
was completed in England,
becoming the first building to surpass
the Great Pyramid of Giza
as the world’s tallest structure.
It would be the tallest structure in the world
until a storm knocked down its central spire in 1548,
and its original height would remain unsurpassed
until the Washington Monument in 1884.
